Tybee Tour de Art this weekend!

On Saturday, Nov. 19 from 12 to 5 p.m., Tybee will host its first seasonal arts market, the Tybee Tour de Art, at various locations throughout Tybee’s North end. Sponsored by the Tybee Arts Association, this inaugural event showcases the talent and craftsmanship of artisans and makers from our area.

“Tour de Art is a seasonal arts market where we pair local artists with local businesses and restaurants. We have a total of 60 artists and craftsmen for our first tour with everything from stained glass, paintings, cosmetics, pottery, jewelry, photography, fiber arts, sustainable goods, recycled art and more,” said Tour de Art organizer, Charissa Murray.

Just in time for the holidays, Tybee Tour de Art is a great opportunity to find unique, quality gifts for your loved ones. The market is the first of its kind in more than a decade. Murray, who is a local artist herself, brought the idea to the Tybee Arts Association’s board, and it was well received. She formed a committee in July with Kelly Jones, Angela Lightsy and Britt Bacon, and together they began to plan the event.

Mirror Image Fish Printing will be at Salt Island this Saturday!

“We wanted it to have a pop-up market feel and to keep the event on the North end as there are no other North end specific events. Since it would be a tour of the North end shops, galleries, bars and restaurants, we thought it would be fun to call it Tour de Art,” Murray explained.

Tybee Tour de Art has received much support from the local community. Sponsors include Huc-a-Poos, Tybean Art & Coffee, Inferno, Tybee Cottage Art Gallery, Seaside Sisters, Chamaco’s, TIMS Bikes, Beach gear and Disc Golf, Irritable Pelican Gallery, Sea Wolf, Cockspur Grill, Sundae Café, High Tide Surf Shop and Salt Island.

Becca Sipper Art will be at Sea Wolf this Saturday!

Kelly Jones, Tour de Art committee chair, encourages everyone to come out and enjoy everything this new arts market has to offer.

“[People] can expect a fun, family friendly atmosphere where they get to shop favorite artists, and hopefully discover new ones, stop for a bite to eat, and maybe grab a drink out in this beautiful beach environment. . . There will be food and drink specials, live entertainment and more,” said Jones.

Cydney V will be located at Hucapoo’s this Saturday.

Local food truck Pie Society will be at The Shoppes at 1207. Guests can enjoy live music at Sea Wolf and Cockspur Grill. And Chamaco’s and Sundae Café will have specials for the day. Additionally, TIMS Bikes is also offering 15 percent off bike rentals the day of the event so shoppers can visit all the stops with ease. And driving service Breezy riders is providing an all-day pass with stops at each participating location to make navigating the island convenient and stress-free.

The organizers are proud to provide an event to allow Tybee’s local artists and businesses to take center stage.

“This area has such an abundance of amazing local art. Combine that with all the great restaurants and businesses on Tybee and there really is something for everyone. Maybe a visitor will find a piece of art or jewelry that they fall in love with. Or maybe they discover a new favorite restaurant or business that they haven’t tried before,” said Jones. “There really isn’t a place on Tybee for local artists to showcase their talents outside of the local galleries. Tybee is quirky, fun and home to so many wonderful artists. Hopefully this event will give more artists on Tybee and the surrounding areas a place to shine,” she added.

Stacy Well Pottery will be located at TIM’s Bikes this Saturday!

The November Tour de Art is the first of several to take place soon. Upcoming dates include Dec. 17 as well as Mar. 18, Apr. 15 and May 20 in 2023. For more information about this exciting event, visit tybeetourdeart.com/. We hope to see you there!
